Sept 10-15: Landsdown Gallery – ‘Beneath the Sky

For one week only, the magnificent paintings of Deborah Cox accompanied by drawings and prints by Tonia Maddison and felt and photos by David Elford. The work in this exhibition responds to landscape and waterways in some way and is inspired by the wonderful Stroud Valleys and surrounding areas.

Primarily a painter, Deborah Cox creates expressive landscapes. In this exhibition she explores the concept of ‘ghost mills’ in the landscape through compositions that include man made structures amidst the wildness of Nature, but also through the process and history of her application of paint and mixed media. Deborah’s paintings are an excavation, an uncovering of the essence of the landscape. Building up and scraping back, laying bare the process just as the land itself is built up and stripped back revealing it’s past.
