Winner of The Laurie Lee Prize for Writing, 2023.

I’m delighted to share that I have been awarded The Laurie Lee Prize for Writing, hosted by Stroud Book Festival, with my piece titled ‘Childhood Memories: Dark Lane, Chalford Hill’

The winner of the prize was announced on Sunday 12th November at an evening event as part of the festival. There will be a video of me reading my winning piece on The Stroud Book Festival website. I’ll share the link as soon as it’s live.

‘Childhood Memories’ is part of a larger work that I am writing, drawing on autobiographical experiences of growing up in Gloucestershire. I am interested in that which is unseen or not visible in the landscape.

This is a theme that I am also exploring in my art practice. In my recent work the visual, and the written, come together in a new body of work exploring individual and collective human history contained in the land and soil.

Some of these themes are also explored in a blog I wrote for Dialect earlier this year. You can read that piece here on the Dialect website.
